Work is expected to start late next year to create more room at SMU to house more students. The space crunch comes after just six years of operating at its current premises in Bras Basah. The school is also looking to expand its undergraduate intake from 1,750 this year to about 1,900 next year, according to SMU President Arnoud De Meyer who spoke to ST on Tue at the introduction of SMU's new economics dean. Professor Bryce Hool, 64, from the University of Auckland in New Zealand and an expert in natural resource economics, will assume his new role on Jan 1.
