Director of SMU’s Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre Sim Cher Young encouraged youths to start thinking about their career interests and ambitions as early as possible. He shared that SMU students are taught career development tenets they should subscribe to as soon as they enter university. When asked about important traits which enhance employability, he said that besides soft-skills, undergraduates should have the initiative and discipline to read outside of their field. SMU fourth-year Economics undergraduate Brandon Ong commented that finding career direction lies in the initiative of the student and shared from his experience that industry information sessions are useful in learning about different industries. SMU alumnus Devathas Sathianathan shared that it is good to learn what your passions are.
