Is pay the most important consideration in an undergraduate’s job search?

SMU’s student ambassadors, Tan Chay Ling and Sharon Lourdes Paul provided their views on what they look out for when searching for jobs. Chay Ling, a final year student with SMU’s SOE and LKCSB said that a friendly working environment would motivate her and that she hopes to join an investment bank with a strong emphasis on team work. A stimulating job would also be fast paced and challenging. Sharon, on the other hand, might start an online business with a friend and become a young entrepreneur. She said that although the starting pay is not very important to her, she hopes that her pay will be linked to her job performance, and that this would motivate her to continue working hard.
