In a commentary, SMU final-year undergraduates and student trainers in the Citi-SMU Financial Literacy Programme for Young Adults Benjamin Tan Guo Hui from the School of Economics and Shaun Chia Qi Jing from the Lee Kong Chian School of Business shared how investors may be hit by lower distribution income and a fall in asset value. They added that while investors hunt for high-yielding instruments like Reits to grow their wealth, it would serve them well to keep in mind the likely change in the macro environment and that investors should monitor the actions taken by the Reit managers to mitigate the risk resulting from rising interest rates in order to safeguard their investment.
