SMU hosted a panel discussion on “The Global Ageing Challenge” in partnership with Channel NewsAsia. The panel comprised SMU Professor Bryce Hool, Dean, School of Economics; Ms Soh Swee Ping, CEO, Council for Third Age (C3A); Mr T K Udairam, Group Chief Executive Officer, Eastern Health Alliance; and Dr. Mary Ann Tsao, Chairman, Tsao Foundation. Professor Hool commented that the picture of the population in 50-years’ time will be very different from the picture today, as what it means to be old is going to change over this period. He said that there will be a mindset shift – from the point of view of how people balance work and non-work through the lifecycle to how we preserve the pension resources and, particularly, how we take advantage of the experience and the human capital that we have.
