On the trend of insurers in Singapore rewarding people who take care of their health, SMU Assistant Professor of Economics Kim Seonghoon said that wellness programmes are generally not effective as it is very difficult for adults to change their health-related habits or lifestyles. “Even if people do make changes, they are more likely to make short-term changes, which do not lead to long-term or permanent change,” he said. Assistant Prof Kim added, “I think the problem lies with who will participate in such wellness programmes.”
