SMU Economics graduate Seumas Yeo is part of the five-member Alumnaid Team Singapore Everest, which had to cut short its bid to become the third Singapore team to scale Mount Everest due to an avalanche triggered by the Nepal earthquake. Seumas had been evacuated to Kathmandu earlier for an unrelated injury, and was recovering from surgery in Kathmandu when disaster struck. The team arrived back in Singapore on May 4. At a press conference at SMU on May 11, the team announced that they will donate their team fund to rescue efforts in Nepal, as well as work with their title sponsor, medical device company Aluminaid, to channel funds to relief efforts.
