Commencement Awards Overview
Established in 2019, the Kwek Hong Png Valedictorian Awards recognise and honour individuals at the Singapore Management University who embody diligence, tenacity, valour, compassion and humility in the pursuit of progress, success and excellence with the goal of creating not only a successful enterprise but a more equitable and inclusive society. These values and virtues are representative of the late Mr Kwek Hong Png, a kind, selfless and humble man filled with immense strength, courage and determination who spent his lifetime building up the Hong Leong Group while constantly contributing back to society.
The awards shall be given annually to the top graduating undergraduate students, one each at University and school levels. The awards will be presented at the respective Commencement ceremonies with each winner delivering his/her respective Valedictorian Address on behalf of the graduating cohort.

Sponsored by DBS Bank Ltd, the prestigious DBS School Valedictorian Awards are given annually to the most outstanding graduate from each of the 6 Schools. The aim is to recognize graduates who had embraced all-round excellence in their education.
The Awards will be presented at the respective Degree Award Ceremonies held by individual schools. Each of the recipient will deliver the Valedictorian Address on behalf of the graduating body of graduates of their schools.
Supported by Singapore Press Holdings Ltd, the prestigious SPH Valedictorian Award is given annually to the highest ranking graduating student from the graduating cohort at the Singapore Management University. The award is aimed at recognising exceptional students and to spur them to greater heights of excellence.
The award will only be given if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The award will be presented at the SMU Commencement Ceremony. The winner will deliver the Valedictorian Address on behalf of the graduating body of students.
The SMU Salutatorian Award is given annually to the second highest ranking graduating student from the graduating cohort at the Singapore Management University. The award is aimed at recognising exceptional students and to spur them to greater heights of excellence.
The award will only be given if there is a candidate of sufficient merit. The award will be presented at the SMU Commencement Ceremony.
Established in 2010, the SMU CIRCLE Award is aimed at recognising distinctive graduating students who have demonstrated the core CIRCLE values during their tenure of studies at the Singapore Management University.

Supported by the Economic Society of Singapore, the Economic Society of Singapore Excellence Award (in Economics) is given annually to a top graduating student in the Bachelor of Science (Economics) programme from the School of Economics (SOE) at the Singapore Management University who has completed his/her Honours Thesis programme in Economics.
Established by Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the Award is given annually at Commencement to provide recognition for an outstanding graduate in the final year of study in the School of Economics.
Sponsored by the Singapore Ministry of Trade and Industry, the Best Thesis Prize is given annually to the graduating student with the best “Senior Thesis” in the Bachelor of Science (Economics) programme, School of Economics. This Award is aimed at encouraging students to aspire for greater heights of academic excellence.
The Excellence Award in Actuarial Science Major, supported by contributions from the faculty members of School of Economics (SOE) at the Singapore Management University, is given annually to recognise outstanding graduating students from any degree programme with declared Second Major in Actuarial Science. The award is aimed at motivating SMU students to aspire for greater heights of excellence.
The award will only be given if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
The Excellence Award in Applied Statistics Major, supported by contributions from the faculty members of School of Economics (SOE) at the Singapore Management University, is given annually to recognise outstanding graduating students in any degree programme with declared Second Major in Applied Statistics. The award is aimed at motivating SMU students to aspire for greater heights of excellence.
The award will only be given if there is a candidate of sufficient merit.
This prestigious award is sponsored by the School of Economics and is given to the top graduating student of the School of Economics.
