DYNAMIC COMPLIANCE
ABSTRACT
In a seminal paper Angrist et al. (1996) introduced the concept of compliers: units that are induced by the value of the instrumental variable to change the value of the endogenous regressor. The current paper generalizes the analysis of compliers to a dynamic setting where a complier in period t is not necessarily a complier in period t + 1. We illustrate this dynamic compliance by revisiting the analysis of admission lotteries to medical school in the Netherlands of Ketel et al. (2016) where applicants can re-apply when rejected.
