In an article which summed up the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s diplomatic and economic triumphs, SMU School of Economics Associate Dean (Faculty, Research) and Professor of Economics Hoon Hian Teck shared his views on Mr Lee’s economic legacies for Singapore. Prof Hoon spoke about how Mr Lee had opposed conventional wisdom to achieve success through various measures – removing tariff barriers, implementing business friendly policies, and establishing a corruption-free government. He also noted that despite an increase in social expenditure, there is still much emphasis on individual and social responsibility.
