In his weekly commentary, SMU Adjunct Faculty Larry Haverkamp pointed out that the recent effort of world leaders from 195 countries, who came together in Paris this week to discuss how to save the planet, is doomed from the start as it is practically impossible to get 195 bosses to agree on anything. In particular, the developing countries felt that it is unfair for them to switch to using the costlier wind or solar energy, as wealthy nations had gotten rich using cheap energy for a hundred years. Meanwhile, Chinese pollution index recorded an average daily reading of 500 last week, but the Chinese did not seem to care. Finally, there is the problem of excessive carbon emission, which has caused global warming and deadly shifts in weather patterns.
