Never lose that sense of adventure in life. Director (Research Administration) of the SMU Office of the Research Professor Winston Koh gave this piece of advice in his speech to Social Science graduates of the class of 2010. It was also the motto he lived by. And that was how students and friends grew to remember Prof Koh not just as an educator, but as a ballroom dancer, a sportsman and an avid photographer. Mr Soon Kian Yong, 25, who got to know Prof Koh from SMU’s ballroom dancing club Ballare, recalled often catching Prof Koh at SMU’s dance studio practising some of the new techniques on his own, so that he would be better prepared when it came to practising with his partner. Mr Desmond Lim, 28, who took a finance module taught by Prof Koh, shared that he was inspired by Prof Koh’s devotion to running to pursure his own passion in basketball. The ex-SMU Basketball captain said, “Though I haven’t had the chance to train alongside Prof Koh in races, his adventures and expeditions always inspired me to push myself beyond limits.”
