In a commentary, SMU Adjunct Faculty Dr Larry Haverkamp discussed the pros and cons of investing in gold. He noted that besides looking beautiful, it is transparent with prices that are updated daily in newspapers and on the Singapore Stock Exchange. Additionally, Dr Haverkamp highlighted that a drawback for all commodities, including gold, is that it has no yield. He also stated that the unpredictability of gold prices may be the best reason for giving gold a pass and staying with “plain kway teow” investments like stocks, bonds and property.
