In his weekly commentary, SMU Adjunct Faculty Larry Haverkamp wrote about Greece being the big event of the week that is likely to influence stock markets and world economies. On the Greek debts, Dr Haverkamp believed that by its own deadline of May 9, the country would be able to find a way to pay its bills to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and others. He also believed that the country would cut pensions and try to collect taxes, which will be unpopular, but the government will push the blame onto the voters with a referendum in June that will endorse the austerity move.
