In a forum letter, SMU School of Economics undergraduate Damon Goh Jian Liang shared his thoughts on the Straits Times report "Should schools enforce community work?" As a SMU student, he believes that the compulsory community work has allowed the students to raise their level of awareness and understanding of those in need, as the programmes and activities on offer allow them to volunteer with community partners and provide their service and help to them. He added that through community service, they pick up essential life skills, such as communication and interpersonal relations - beyond what academic lessons can teach them.
