Commenting on Budget 2013, SMU Professor of Economics Hoon Hian Teck said that the Government has ensured that the elderly benefit most from the Budget. This was an indication that we are moving towards a more inclusive society and are not forgetting the contributions that our senior citizens have made to Singapore. He also commented that some of the measures announced, such as the Wage Credit Scheme, are unique and innovative. He said that with the government bearing 40% of the wage increase, the scheme ‘would incentivise companies to help raise their workers’ productivity.”
