In his weekly commentary, SMU Adjunct Faculty Dr Larry Haverkamp shared his thoughts on Britain's vote to leave the European Union (EU) and discussed the possible ways to reverse this decision. He highlighted that the British had gathered a petition with 4 million signatures to hold another referendum and decide again whether to leave the EU, adding that the British Parliament could also meet and decide to remain in the EU. Dr Haverkamp noted that a third way out was suggested by George Soros, one of the greatest commodities speculators of all time. Mr Soros had suggested that the terms of Britain’s membership in EU be renegotiated. A renegotiated “associate membership” could be the same as the old terms with one change: Immigration. The main reason why Britain voted “out” was to control its immigration.
